Appointment and Compensation of Graduate Student Researchers
UC DAVIS: GRADUATE STUDIES
October 19, 2011
In 2003, UC Davis formally implemented the title of Graduate Student Researcher (GSR, title code 3282) for the academic appointment of graduate students. The GSR title is used primarily to fund graduate students who are conducting compensated research, normally as a part of the research required for their theses or dissertations. The Office of Graduate Studies has issued a new policy (GS2011-03 Appointment and Compensation of Graduate Student Researchers) that supersedes procedures and processes described in Directive 02-098 dated July 19, 2002. The new policy formalizes the use of the GSR title and updates policy regarding graduate program compensation plans. The new policy also outlines a revised process for submission of compensation plans by graduate programs and describes the rationale for aligning GSR compensation plans with the annual graduate student expense budget provided by the Financial Aid Office. These changes will be reflected in UC Davis APM Appendix II-B in the near future.
All graduate programs must submit updated GSR compensation plans to the Office of Graduate Studies no later than April 2, 2012 for approval and implementation in Fall Quarter, 2012. Any program that does not submit a compensation plan by the requested date will be assumed to have adopted the default plan described in the policy.
