Recharge Rates for Occupational Health Services to be Eliminated Starting in 2011-12
UC DAVIS: ADMINISTRATIVE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
July 05, 2011
Occupational Health Services is the campus-based medical service that provides:
- treatment for work-related injuries and illness
- preventive medicine related to on-the-job injury and illness
- mandated medical surveillance programs
- pre-employment physicals.
Beginning July 1, 2011, a new funding model goes into effect whereby these services will be provided at no-charge to campus departments. Under the new funding model, the costs of medical prevention and surveillance programs will be fully incorporated into the Workers’ Compensation base budget and funded through the campus composite benefit rate. This change in funding methodology is cost-neutral to the new composite fringe benefits rates which also go into effect July 1, 2011.
Funding a comprehensive occupational health program in this way removes financial barriers for departments to take advantage of critical preventive services. It also significantly streamlines and improves administrative efficiency by eliminating 29 separate recharge rates for various occupational health procedures and services. Having a robust and comprehensive medical prevention program is foundational to protecting UC Davis employees and also reduces overall Workers’ Compensation costs.
Departments will continue to cover the cost of consumables and supplies utilized in occupational health programs.
Departments are encouraged to refer employees to Occupational Health Services (http://safetyservices.ucdavis.edu/programs-and-services/occupational-health) for respirator fit tests, DOT drug and alcohol testing, travel immunizations, TB clearances, vaccinations, etc. Departments interested in implementing pre-employment physicals should contact Human Resources before referring prospective employees to Occupational Health Services.
