RE: UC Davis CIRM Stem Cell Training Program - Call for Applications
Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Clinical Fellow
The UC Davis School of Medicine seeks applications from graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows interested in participating in the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Stem Cell Training Program. The objective of this program is to develop highly skilled, critically thinking, and collaborative scientists with successful research careers in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine.
The training program provides a stipend for one year and includes mentored research projects, a core curriculum including leadership training, journal clubs and a seminar series, and an annual retreat. Graduate students may be extended for up to an additional two years and postdoctoral and clinical fellow appointments may be extended for up to an additional one year, contingent upon trainee participation and progress.
Eligibility Criteria
Current or prospective UC Davis and UC Merced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows with evidence of a background and strong research interest in stem and progenitor cell biology and/or regenerative medicine, and an identified faculty mentor willing to meet the requirements of the program. Only one application may be submitted by a lab group or mentor, regardless of category.

• Provide three letters of recommendation.
• Identify a qualified faculty mentor and include a supporting letter indicating his/her willingness to mentor, meet the requirements of the program including active participation in the training program, provide resources and environment necessary, and include mentor’s NIH Biosketch.
• Graduate-student applicants: Provide undergraduate and graduate transcripts and GRE scores (unofficial copies acceptable).
• Postdoctoral and Clinical Fellows: A one-page summary of previous research experiences and training and a CV.
Review Criteria
• Academic achievements and research promise.
• Match of applicant’s goals and the training program objectives.
• Research training environment proposed, including mentor’s qualifications and plan for scholar career development.
• Potential for applicant to become an independent scientist in stem cell-related research. A description of proposed career pathway is preferred.
• Diversity of scholars’ backgrounds, interests, career aspirations in stem cell biology, gender, and ethnicity.
