Re: Professional Development Program for Eligible Academic Federation Members

I am pleased to announce that the Professional Development Program will provide
awards for the 2009-10 academic year. The application instructions and cover
sheet are posted on the Vice Provost-–Academic Personnel Web site at
http://academicpersonnel.ucdavis.edu/awards.cfm.

For Unit 18 members:
http://academicpersonnel.ucdavis.edu/nsf_award_procedures.doc
This competitive program provides funding to enable the pursuit of professional
development activities, including travel to professional meetings that will
enhance an individual’s effectiveness in pedagogical endeavors. There is only
one application period in the fall for this award.

For AF Members other than those in Unit 18:
http://academicpersonnel.ucdavis.edu/fed_prof_develop_procedures.doc
This competitive program provides funding to enable the pursuit of professional
development activities that will enhance an individual’s effectiveness and range
of capabilities in his/her current position. This award does not include travel
to professional meetings. Such travel should be requested from the Academic
Federation Research Travel Grants program (see:
http://academicfederation.ucdavis.edu/documents/Travel-Call-September-2008.pdf).
There is a fall and a spring application period for this award. The spring call
for application dates is on the application form. A reminder will also be sent
in the spring.

Please note that the proposal, the department chair’s letter, and any optional
supporting letter must be forwarded to the Dean or other appropriate
administrative officer no later than December 12, 2008. Deans’ offices should
transmit the applications and supporting material to the Office of the Vice
Provost—Academic Personnel by December 19, 2008.

Questions concerning the Professional Development Program should be directed to
Jo Anne Boorkman, Academic Assistant to the Vice Provost–-Academic Personnel
(752-4827 or jaboorkman@ucdavis.edu).
