RE: Annual Asbestos Notification

California Health and Safety Code Section 25915 requires that all UC Davis
employees be notified annually of the presence of asbestos in campus buildings
constructed prior to 1979. Please post this notice in an area(s) accessible
to all employees.

Building occupants should be aware that asbestos might be found in the
following materials:

Acoustical Panels
Asphalt Floor Tiles
Ceiling Tiles
Chalkboards
Fire Proofing
Fume Hood Insulation

Glazing Compound
Gypsum Board Joint Compound
Laboratory Bench Tops
Linoleum
Oven Gaskets
Plaster

Stucco
Textured Paints
Transite Panels
Transite Shingles
Vinyl Asbestos Tiles
Vinyl Asbestos Tile Mastic

It is important to note that the presence of asbestos does not mean you have
been exposed. Exposure results when friable asbestos particles are inhaled or
ingested. Asbestos becomes friable when material containing asbestos is
drilled, sanded or disturbed by remodeling or demolition work. Intact, bonded,
sealed or undisturbed asbestos does not pose a hazard. Please refer to EH&S
SafetyNet #84 at http://ehs.ucdavis.edu/sftynet/sn-84.cfm for additional
information.

For specifics about your building, please contact Peter Roddy at
peroddy@ucdavis.edu.
