UC DAVIS: OFFICES OF THE CHANCELLOR AND PROVOST July 11, 2008 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: UC Davis Centennial exhibit at the California State Fair Please consider volunteering as a campus ambassador for the UC Davis Educational Pavilion at the 2008 California State Fair. The Fair runs from Friday, August 15 through Monday, September 1, 2008 and is located in Sacramento at Cal Expo. UC Davis is an exhibit partner of the 2008 California State Fair. The 6,000-square-foot pavilion will showcase the campus's development from farm school to a dynamic university for the arts and sciences, recognized worldwide for education and research in agriculture, health care, the environment, alternative energy and global understanding. Our College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and our School of Veterinary Medicine have been long-time partners with the Fair. This new partnership gives UC Davis a unique opportunity to celebrate our centennial and build awareness among the Fair’s nearly 1 million visitors during its 18-day run. The educational outreach exhibit requires staffing in three-hour or four-hour volunteer shifts. Training will be provided. Departmental release time for volunteer shifts is appropriate with supervisory approval, and supervisory approval of overtime. Several colleges, schools, units and departments have agreed to adopt a day, so check in with your unit’s Centennial contact to see if your unit has selected a specific date. In addition to admission to the Fair that day, as a special thank you, everyone who volunteers will receive a UC Davis T-shirt to wear during his or her shift and a special Centennial lapel pin.
