UC DAVIS: OFFICES OF THE CHANCELLOR AND PROVOST June 27, 2008 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Volunteer Opportunity The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) of UC Davis offers diverse educational programs, providing affordable courses and events for seniors living in Davis and nearby communities. The Institute is based in UC Davis Extension and partly supported through an endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation. The program is directed by a Board of community volunteers and has a membership of about 500. OLLI depends upon volunteer instructors from an array of disciplines and areas of interest. Campus faculty who have taught in the program have appreciated the experience. Various teaching opportunities may be arranged from a single short lecture to longer workshops or series of class sessions. OLLI provides a valuable means of extending the resources and scholarship of UC Davis into the community. Teaching in OLLI programs provides a distinctive opportunity for worthwhile and rewarding service for faculty. A member of the OLLI Board may call upon you sometime soon for advice and assistance in identifying potential short courses and faculty who may be willing to consider teaching in the program. I encourage you to consider seriously this request for assistance. For more information, please contact Program Coordinator Lorraine Townsend at (530) 752-9695 or ltownsend@unexmail.ucdavis.edu.
