UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR April 4, 2008 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: ASUCD-Davis Community Blood Drive ALL FUTURE BLOOD DRIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE UC DAVIS FRIDAY UPDATE EMAIL NEWSLETTER. Please consider donating blood during the upcoming blood drive on Wednesday and Thursday, April 23 and 24, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Freeborn Hall. As a special thank you, everyone who donates will receive a free t-shirt or a Baskin-Robbins coupon. BloodSource is a group of medical professionals who, with the gift of blood from donors, serve every hospital in the area and help advance the science of blood-related medicine. BloodSource must collect an average of 700 units of blood a day. Half of the blood supply comes from donors who visit donor centers and half comes from donors who sign up for mobile blood drives sponsored by their local community, place of worship or employer. Departmental release time is appropriate for staff wishing to donate. To help alleviate waiting times, faculty and staff are given priority. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in generally good health. We ask that you do not donate blood if you have had cold or flu symptoms within the 48 hours prior to donating. Please eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood and bring picture identification for registration purposes. All staff, faculty, students and alumni are members of the ASUCD-Davis community blood program, which provides members and their families with 100 percent coverage for blood and blood costs. Thank you for your continued support in promoting and participating in this event and for your ongoing concern about healthcare in our community. For further information, please call Heather Sharp at Blood Source at (800) 995-4420 ext. 11042 or via email at heather.sharp@bloodsource.org. Larry N. Vanderhoef Chancellor 08-037
