UC DAVIS: UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP OFFICE

March 04, 2008

TO: DEANS, DIRECTORS, AND DEPARTMENT CHAIRS

RE: DEPARTMENTAL CITATIONS AND CITATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING
PERFORMANCE FOR UNDERGRADUATES GRADUATING IN 2007-2008

The deadline this year for submitting names of recipients for Departmental
Citations or Citations for Outstanding Performance is April 21, 2008.
Only Report of Departmental Citation forms for graduating seniors for the
2007-2008 academic year (summer 2007 through spring 2008) should be
forwarded to the Committee.

Participation in the Citation Program is voluntary and open to all
departments and major programs. Two types of citations are available for
students considered to be outstanding: (1) Departmental Citations are for
students selected by the department as having the highest academic record
in the major or program; and (2) Citations for Outstanding Performance are
for students selected by the department or specialized program as having
demonstrated exceptional performance (this does not necessarily mean
academically).

SUGGESTED CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD

While departments or major programs may apply their own criteria, the
Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors & Prizes suggests the
following criteria for uniformity:

The Citations should be reserved for students of true distinction; in
any given year the department or major program may choose to honor one
student, more than one, or no student.

The Citations should be given for excellence in the department or major
program and students should maintain a grade point average of
3.6 in courses given by the department or major program. Work outside
the major may also be a factor in selecting the recipients.

Activity relating to the work of the major or department, such as
writing, experimentation, or creative work in the field should be
   considered.

Most recipients are majors in the department, but need not be if a
substantial amount of work has been done with distinction in the
   department.

PROCEDURES

ONLY send the name of the recipient(s) on the "Report of Departmental
Citation" form (available at
http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/forms.html) who will graduate
in the 2007-2008 academic year to the Committee on Undergraduate
Scholarships, Honors & Prizes, c/o Scholarship Office, no later than
April 21, 2008. If more than one student is selected, please submit a
form for each recipient. Please indicate on the "Report of Departmental
Citation" form which type of citation is to be issued to each student and
the exact name of the department and major. Student names received after
April 21st may not be included in the Commencement Program.

Once you have mailed the "Report of Departmental Citation" form to the
Scholarship Office, certificates will be mailed to you for lettering.
The Chancellor's signature will appear on the certificate. To provide
assistance in lettering the certificates, you may either contact
Reprographics or use the Certificate Template for Departmental Citation
available at http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/forms.html.

The citations are usually presented near the close of the spring quarter
and may be given in any manner deemed suitable by the department. If your
department is having an award ceremony, please indicate the date on the
"Report of Departmental Citation" form.

Please contact the Scholarship Office at 752-2804 if further information is
desired.
