MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE; DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, and
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

RE: 2008-2009 Call for Small Grants in Aid of Research ($2,000)

DEADLINE: Friday, April 11, 2008

The Committee on Research is now accepting applications from Academic
Senate Members for the Small Grant in Aid of Research. We anticipate
that this year there will be funding for approximately 160 such awards,
a substantial increase from previous years for this award program.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 11, via the online
application page on the Committee on Research Web page (see procedures
for web link). The grant amount is a fixed $2,000. The grant funds can
be expended over the two fiscal years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. In no
cases will unexpended funds be carried over after June 30, 2010.

In allocating awards, Assistant Professors will have first priority.
Eligible professors whose applications last year were not funded will
have second priority. Third priority will go to Associate and Full
professors who are making normal progress in the merit cycle with more
junior faculty receiving the higher priority.

ELIGIBILITY for the Small Grant: All members of the Academic Senate
whose standard faculty teaching load is equivalent to 16 quarter units
per year, and are making normal progress in the merit cycle are eligible
for this program. Please refer to Standing Order of the Regents 105.1
for information on Academic Senate membership.

Faculty on leave without pay (LWOP) are not eligible and Emeriti will
receive lower priority during the review of applications.

ALLOWABLE EXPENSES: All expenses in the furtherance of the applicant's
research, excluding faculty salaries, are allowable as long as they meet
university rules for eligibility. All books, films, equipment, etc.
purchased with grant funds are the property of the University when they
have served the grant holder's purpose.

PROCEDURES:
1) Complete the online Application for Small Grant in Aid of Research at
http://academicsenate.ucdavis.edu/committee_cor_small_grant_form.htm

Each application must include a 500 word summary of the research
activities being conducted by the applicant. Applications must include
a list of other support for research, not including current Academic
Senate small grants. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m.
Friday, April 11, 2008.

2) If you have successfully completed all the required fields in the
application, the Web page will display a message confirming your
application after submission.

3) Applicants will be notified by May 30, 2008 whether they have been
awarded funds. Please contact Kimberly Pulliam, Academic Senate Office
