RE: Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day

UC Davis joins California public and private employers in recognizing April as
Sexual Assault Awareness Month. As part of the effort to dispel harmful
attitudes about rape, the Campus Violence and Prevention Program (CVPP) is co-
sponsoring "Denim Day" with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault
(CALCASA). In recognition of Denim Day on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, UC Davis
employees are encouraged to wear denim to work.

The Denim Day campaign began in 1999 with CALCASA and Los Angeles Commission on
Assaults Against Women (LACAAW), as part of an international protest against an
Italian Supreme Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim
was wearing jeans. UC Davis supports Denim Day as an example of how a community
can help change people's perceptions about violence against women, men and
children and provide a safer community for all people.

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness month, CVPP is also sponsoring the
Silent Survivor awareness campaign on the Quad April 23rd, 25th and 27th. This
display of silhouettes with UCD survivor's stories, not only raises awareness
of the issue, but it allows those still suffering in silence to know they are
not alone.

For more information on CVPP's activities related to interpersonal violence
prevention, self-defense and safety programs for woman and youth, and violence
prevention education in schools and the larger community, please visit our Web
site at http://cvpp.ucdavis.edu/. For questions or further information, please
