UC DAVIS: ACADEMIC SENATE

March 6, 2007

MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE; DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, and ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

RE: 2007-2008 Call for Small Grants in Aid of Research ($2,000)

DEADLINE: Friday, April 13, 2007

The Committee on Research is now accepting applications from Academic Senate Members for the Small
Grant in Aid of Research. We anticipate that this year there will be funding for up to 125 such
awards.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 13, via the online application page on the Committee
on Research Web page. The grant amount is a fixed $2,000. The grant funds can be expended over the
two fiscal years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. In no cases will unexpended funds be carried over after
June 30, 2009.

In allocating awards, priority will be given to those at all steps and ranks who are making normal
progress towards merit and promotion. If funds must be rationed, priority will be given to those who
did not receive a Small Grant in Aid of Research the previous year. Exceptions to the above policy
will be made only in rare instances where there are extenuating circumstances. Exceptions will be
made at the discretion of the Committee on Research Grants committee.

ELIGIBILITY for the Small Grant: All members of the Academic Senate in units whose standard faculty
teaching load is equivalent to 16 quarter units per year are eligible for this program. Please refer
to Standing Order of the Regents 105.1 for information on Academic Senate membership.

ALLOWABLE EXPENSES: All expenses in the furtherance of the applicant's research, excluding faculty
salaries, are allowable as long as they meet university rules for eligibility. All books, films,
equipment, etc. purchased with grant funds are the property of the University when they have served
the grant holder's purpose.
