UC DAVIS: Academic Senate Committee on Committees - DEADLINE: January 16, 2007 December 18, 2006 DEANS, DIRECTORS, AND DEPARTMENT CHAIRS RE: Committee on Committees Call for Volunteers - Shared Governance The annual call for volunteers for service on committees of the Academic Senate has been sent to all faculty by email and is due on January 16, 2007. The form is an interactive form to be filled out and submitted on line, available at http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/senate/committee_volunteer_form.cfm. Most of you know that the Academic Senate is a critical, primary partner in the governance of the University with distinct authority under the standing orders of the Board of Regents. We accept this distinction as a privilege and responsibility, and have organized the Academic Senate into standing committees consonant with the authorities and responsibilities delegated by the Board of Regents. The Senate is actively advising the Administration in their areas of responsibility. The purpose of this memo is to ask for your assistance in identifying colleagues in your Schools, Colleges, and departments to serve on Academic Senate committees. Our effectiveness is directly related to sound advice from balanced committees fairly representing the breadth of the campus. As the work of the Senate directly affects programs throughout the campus, representation from your respective units will insure that your perspectives are fully represented. In addition, of course, Senate service is an important part of every faculty member's responsibility to the department, college, and University. We look forward to working together towards our ultimate goal of true shared governance at the University of California, Davis. Linda F. Bisson, Chair Davis Division Academic Senate Robert G. Flocchini, Chair Committee on Committees 06-134
