UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

October 16, 2006

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS (Davis Campus Only)

SUBJECT: 2007-08 Chancellor's Teaching Fellowships

I am pleased to issue this call for applications to the Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship
Program. The program provides graduate students with opportunities to participate in
closely supervised teaching apprenticeships with UC Davis faculty members. This
fellowship program is open to graduate students in all disciplines and carries a stipend
for one quarter of the 2007-08 academic year that is equivalent to the salary of a half-
time Associate-In ($1,891 per month, subject to salary adjustments) as well as a fee
remission for the quarter in which the course is taught.

The primary purpose of this fellowship is to enhance the preparation of potential future
faculty by supporting close collaborative relationships between the teaching fellows and
faculty members acknowledged as exemplary teachers. The apprenticeship relationship is
the central aspect of the program. However, the select nature of this award is also
intended to honor those graduate students who have demonstrated exceptional promise as
educators at the post-secondary level.

A description of the program, application, and selection procedure is available at:
http://trc.ucdavis.edu/trc/ta/CTF/index.html.

The deadline for the submission of applications is Monday, January 8, 2007. The 2007-08
Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship awards will be announced by Spring Quarter 2007. The
early deadline and announcement should help departments and graduate students plan support
for the 2007-08 academic year.

Applicants are encouraged to attend one of the following informational meetings in
25 Wellman Hall:

Friday, November 3, 9:00 a.m., or

Wednesday, November 8, 1:10 p.m., or

Tuesday, November 14, 12:10 p.m.

Each of the informational meetings is identical and is intended to help graduate students
and their faculty mentors better understand how to approach this teaching opportunity.

For more information or assistance contact the Teaching Resources Center, 752-6050.
