UC DAVIS: STUDENT AFFAIRS INFORMATION AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

August 15, 2006

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

RE: Upgrade of Student Information System to Banner 7

Banner, the software that runs the UC Davis Student Information System,
will be upgraded from version 6 to version 7 over Labor Day weekend,
September 2-4, 2006. The Banner system will not be available starting
5:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2006, through 8:00 a.m. Tuesday,
September 5, 2006. Banner users will not be able to access or update
student information while the system is being upgraded.

Federal mandates for financial aid processing require the campus to
upgrade to Banner 7 no later than November, 2006. This upgrade will
introduce a new Web-based access method, a modified log-in procedure,
improved security, and a modified data structure for some of the Banner
information.

Banner users and campus technical staff have been informed about the
upgrade through various communication channels, including presentations,
publications, and emails.

Banner users are encouraged to attend Banner 7 training, which is being
offered in late August and early September (http://sdps.ucdavis.edu/).
They are also encouraged to visit the Student Information System Web
site for more information about the upgrade (http://sis.ucdavis.edu/).
The Banner Help Desk is also available to answer questions (530-757-3299
or banner-help-desk@ucdavis.edu).

Contingency and support plans have been created in the event the upgrade
does not go as planned. A fully staffed help desk will be in place and
the Banner team will be monitoring the system. The Banner Web site will
be updated during the testing this summer so users will have the latest
self-help information available. In the event of a contingency
implementation, the Banner 6 system will be in standby mode ready for
immediate use.

For more information, please contact Debbie Lauriano, Director IET
Application Development (dalauriano@ucdavis.edu, 757-3277), or Peter
Brinckerhoff, Project Manager (pjbrinckerhoff@ucdavis.edu, 757-3070).
