UC DAVIS: Dean's Office, School of Medicine June 6, 2006 DEANS, DIRECTORS, AND DEPARTMENT CHAIRS MEMBERS OF THE UC DAVIS FACULTY RE: Call for Applications for the UC Davis Stem Cell Training Program The UC Davis School of Medicine seeks applications from PhD, MD/PhD, DVM/PhD students, and from postdoctoral and clinical fellows interested in participating in the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Stem Cell Training Program. The objective of this program is to develop highly skilled, critically thinking, and collaborative scientists with successful independent research careers in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. The training program provides stipends to selected graduate students and fellows, and includes mentored research projects, a core curriculum including leadership training, journal clubs and a seminar series, and an annual retreat. Graduate students can be supported for up to three years, and postdoctoral and clinical fellows for up to two years. It is anticipated that up to 12 candidates (four graduate students, four postdoctoral fellows, and four clinical fellows) will be considered for entry into the program in the 2006-2007 academic year. Applications will be accepted for postdoctoral and clinical fellows for a July 1, 2006 entry date and from graduate students for entry into the program in Fall 2006. Eligibility Criteria Graduate students: Must be currently enrolled or recently admitted to a graduate program at UC Davis or UC Merced and show strong evidence of interest in stem cell biology and/or regenerative medicine. Postdoctoral and Clinical Fellows: Current or prospective fellows with evidence of a background and strong research interest in stem cell biology and/or regenerative medicine, and identification of a faculty mentor. Application Process * Complete the application form available at http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/stemcellresearch/training_program/applicati on.html * Provide three letters of recommendation. * Identification of a faculty mentor, a supporting letter indicating willingness to mentor and resources and environment available, and mentor's NIH Biosketch (or CV, including grant support) * Postdoctoral and clinical fellows must include a one-page summary of previous research experiences and training and a CV. Review Criteria * Academic achievements and research promise. * Match of applicant's goals and the training program objectives. * Research training environment proposed. * Potential for applicant to become an independent scientist in stem cell-related research.
