Siegel as Vice Provost - Information and Educational Technology I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Peter M. Siegel as Vice Provost-Information and Educational Technology, effective August 15, 2006, following a national search. Mr. Siegel is a seasoned information technology leader with an exceptionally strong background to assume this important role for UC Davis. Mr. Siegel is currently Chief Information Officer at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, a position he has held since 2000. During his tenure at Illinois, he reorganized the campus's central computing, educational technologies, classroom technologies, computer labs, and data and voice communications units into an integrated information technologies and educational services unit. Mr. Siegel is an active participant in both national and state professional organizations, as well as in nationally-recognized technology partnerships with other major research universities. He is a member of the Educause-Internet2 Security Task Force Executive Committee and is working with the American Council on Education and Educause on security policy issues. He frequently speaks on computer privacy and security issues, collaboration technologies, and the role of technology planning in universities. Prior to joining Illinois, Mr. Siegel was director of Academic Information Technology at Iowa State University and spent more than 25 years at Cornell University, including serving as Director of the National Supercomputer Facility. Our campus looks forward to many exciting advances in information and information technology with Peter's sights and leadership.
