UC DAVIS: General Library UC DAVIS: Bookstore October 3, 2005 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC FEDERATION RE: Campus Authors Annual Event A program to celebrate the newly-published books of UC Davis faculty and academic appointees will take place on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Peter J. Shields Library. The event, co-sponsored by the UC Davis General Library and the UC Davis Bookstore, combines a reception, brief remarks by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw, Academic Senate Chair Daniel L. Simmons, University Librarian Marilyn J. Sharrow, and a representative number of the authors. The event also includes a one-day display of over 100 newly published books by UC Davis faculty members and academic appointees, and all authors whose books were submitted for display at the event will be honored. The authors who will appear as speakers at this year's program include: Louis Grivetti, Nutrition, "Cultural Aspects of Nutrition. Holland Cheng, Molecular and Cellular Biology, "Conformational Proteomics of Macromolecular Architectures" Joshua Clover, English, "The Matrix" Ines Hernandez-Avila, Native American Studies, "Reading Native American Women" Prasant Mohapatra, Computer Science, "Ad Hoc Networks: Technologies and Protocols" Joe Wenderoth, English, "The Holy Spirit Of Life: Essays Written For John Ashcroft's Secret Self" Sally Springer, Chancellor's Office, "Admission Matters: What Students and Parents Need to Know About Getting Into College" Eric Smoodin, American Studies/Film Studies, "Regarding Frank Capra: Audience, Celebrity, and American Film Studies, 1930-1960" D. Kern Holoman, Music, "The Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire 1828-1967" There is no charge for the event and all UC Davis faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend. This is an annual opportunity to hear colleagues from various disciplines speak about their current research, writing and publication experiences. Refreshments will be provided.
