UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR July 22, 2005 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Appointment of Vice Chancellor-Research We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Barry M. Klein as Vice Chancellor-Research following a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis. He has served as Vice Chancellor- Research in an interim capacity since July 2001. In 1992 Professor Klein came to Davis from the Naval Research Laboratory to chair the Department of Physics. In 1998, he assumed the position of Vice Provost-Academic Personnel, serving for three years before taking on the responsibilities of Vice Chancellor-Research in 2001. During his interim service as Vice Chancellor, Barry has made the office very responsive to faculty needs, expanded interactions between researchers and the private sector, and instituted initiatives to increase the campus's success in attracting research funding.
