UC DAVIS: Offices of the Chancellor and Provost - Academic Personnel May 3, 2005 DEANS, DIRECTORS, AND DEPARTMENT CHAIRS ACADEMIC FEDERATION MEMBERS DAVIS CAMPUS ONLY RE: Call for Nominations/Applications for Academic Assistant to the Vice Provost - Academic Personnel I am pleased to announce the availability of a half-time position for a member of the Academic Federation to serve as Academic Assistant in the Office of the Provost. The purpose of the Academic Assistantship is to provide an opportunity for firsthand experience in academic administration. The term of the appointment is one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year by mutual agreement. The appointee may be assigned duties from the following areas: 1. Academic Policy and Personnel Issues - Assist the Office of the Vice Provost in communication with chairpersons, deans, and Academic Federation committees on matters affecting the Academic Federation; participate in selected policy matters related to the personnel process for the Academic Federation; identify the needs of academic federation appointees and serve as liaison to the Academic Federation Executive Committee. 2. General Administration - Participate in the development and review of correspondence, campus policies and procedures, and preparation of reports to the Office of the President and other agencies. 3. Conferences and Events - Participate in planning and conducting the professional development programs and workshops that are sponsored by the Vice Provost for the benefit of Academic Federation members. 4. Analysis of Academic Personnel Data - Gather data and conduct analyses relevant to personnel issues including departmental peer and voting group plans, position screenings, dossier reviews and UCD academic personnel manual revisions. Candidates must be Academic Federation members and must have the following additional qualifications: 1. Ability to work effectively with campus administrators, deans, Senate and Federation members, staff, and students; 2. Ability to write clearly and concisely; 3. Ability to conduct critical analysis of policies and programs and to forecast potential outcomes. 4. Understanding of and ability to support Campus Principles of Community in promoting the mission of the Office of the Vice Provost - Academic Personnel; 5. Ability to complete assignments rapidly and under specific deadlines. In addition to receiving their normal salary, the Academic Assistant will also receive an annual stipend of $6,000. The application should include a statement of interest, a current curriculum vitae, and any additional supporting information that the candidate would like to provide. Applicants should also receive approval from their immediate supervisor regarding release time during the appointment. Replacement funds at an amount determined by negotiation with the department will be provided to cover the period of absence. Starting date is July 1, 2005; nominations or applications must be received no later than June 3, 2005.
