UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR April 13, 2005 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Appointment of Peter Yellowlees as Interim Vice Provost - Information and Educational Technology We are pleased to announce that Peter Yellowlees, Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Academic Information Systems at the UC Davis Health System, has been named Interim Vice Provost for Information and Educational Technology effective April 15. Professor Yellowlees, an international expert in telemedicine and the long-distance electronic delivery of health care and education, will provide leadership in managing the myriad forms of information technology used throughout the campus, including computing systems, data, voice, and video communication services. He will serve while a national search is conducted for a permanent vice provost to replace John Bruno, who is returning to the faculty of the Department of Computer Science after overseeing the campus technology operation since August 1999. Professor Yellowlees joined UC Davis in January 2004. His wide-ranging research interests include current projects in robotic surgery, electronic record implementation, data mining and disease management protocols, internet email and video consultation services, the use of virtual reality for health education on the Internet, and electronic death record certification processes. He is a member of the Campus Council for Information Technology and the MediaWorks Faculty Board of Directors and has been actively involved in many IET projects, including a review of learning management systems. Professor Yellowlees brings a wonderful blend of experience and expertise to campus technology, and will ably fill the position of Interim Vice Provost until our search is concluded.
