UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR March 29, 2005 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS Re: ASUCD-Davis Community Blood Drive Please consider donating blood during the upcoming blood drive on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12 and 13, 2005, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Freeborn Hall. As a special thank you, everyone who donates will receive a free t-shirt. BloodSource is a group of medical professionals who, with the precious gift of blood from donors, serve every hospital in the area and help advance the science of blood- related medicine worldwide. BloodSource must collect an average of 700 units of blood a day. Half the blood supply comes from donors who visit donor centers and half comes from donors who sign up for mobile blood drives sponsored by their local community, place of worship or employer. BloodSource values the faculty and staff who faithfully donate blood at the ASUCD blood drives. Departmental release time is appropriate for staff wishing to donate. To help alleviate waiting times, there will be a special section for faculty and staff. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in generally good health. We ask that you do not donate blood if you have had cold or flu symptoms within the 48 hours prior to donating. Please eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood and bring picture identification for registration purposes. All staff, faculty, students, and alumni are members of the ASUCD-Davis community blood program, which provides members and their families with 100 percent coverage for blood and blood costs. Thank you for your continued support in promoting and participating in this event and for your ongoing concern about healthcare in our community. For further information, please call Melissa Raski, ASUCD Blood Drive Director, at (530) 756-4920. Larry N. Vanderhoef Chancellor 05-043
