UC DAVIS: ACADEMIC SENATE COMMITTEE ON COURSES OF INSTRUCTION September 24, 2004 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS, MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE, AND MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC FEDERATION RE: Policies and Procedures for Submitting Course Approval Requests Current COCI policy and procedures for establishing new courses, changing existing courses, or canceling courses are available at our web site (http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/senate/committee_cci_policies.htm). COCI uses current guidelines to thoroughly review all course approval requests, even those proposing relatively minor changes. All requests must be submitted online, using the Course Approval Form (http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/cafinfo/). Although either support staff or the instructor may complete the online Course Approval Form, we encourage instructors to do this as they are most familiar with course content and are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the form. To obtain access to the Course Approval System, please contact Keitha Hunter in the Office of the Registrar (kehunter@ucdavis.edu; 752-2676). For approved courses to be included in the 05-06 General Catalog Supplement they must be received by COCI, in final form, by January 14, 2005. Requests are reviewed and approved by college, school, and/or divisional courses committees before they are forwarded to COCI. Consult with the courses committee in your college or school about the lead time required to act on your requests and forward them to COCI for final action. COCI reviews courses in the order they are received. Instructors and support staff submitting course approval requests should carefully read the online help (http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/senate/caf_online_help.htm) accompanying all entries on the Course Approval Form. Submissions that are incomplete, inaccurate, or contain typographical errors will be returned to the college or school committee. This greatly delays approval. If you have any questions about COCI's policies or procedures, contact Marci Buell, Committee Analyst (752-2220; mcbuell@ucdavis.edu). ASSOCIATE IN PETITION REMINDER: Associate Instructor requests must be submitted on an Associate Instructor Petition. A petition can be downloaded at: http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/senate/coci/associate_instructor_form.doc Arnold Sillman, Chair Academic Senate Committee on Courses of Instruction 04-093
