UC DAVIS: OFFICES OF THE CHANCELLOR AND PROVOST August 19, 2004 MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE RE: Recruitment of a Faculty Assistant to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor I am pleased to announce the availability of one 0.25 to 0.50 FTE Faculty Assistant position in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, beginning as soon as October 1, 2004. The appointee will work directly with the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor on implementation of the UC Davis Strategic Plan with a particular focus on recruiting faculty input and ensuring effective communication with faculty. The term of the position will be academic year 2004-05, with the possibility of renewal for one or more years by mutual agreement. The appointee may be assigned duties in the following areas: * Liaison: develop and maintain contacts with committees of the Academic Senate and Academic Federation, the Council of Deans, and department chairs that will allow clear and frequent communication with the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor about ideas and opportunities for faculty participation in implementation of the UC Davis Strategic Plan. * Planning: assist the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor in the development of a communication and action plan that will result in specific, faculty-led efforts to pursue the strategies outlined in the UC Davis strategic plan in the areas of learning, discovery, and engagement. Candidates must be tenured members of the UC Davis ladder faculty. This position will involve significant writing projects and oral presentations to a variety of audiences. The successful candidate will be asked to work collaboratively with campus administrators, academic deans, faculty, and staff. In some cases, projects will require a rapid response to time-sensitive opportunities or externally imposed deadlines. This position carries an administrative stipend. Academic-year faculty may receive additional summer compensation. Funds will be made available to the appointee's department to cover a portion of the appointee's teaching duties and/or support for the appointee’s research program.
