UC DAVIS: Accounting & Financial Services July 1, 2004 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: City of Davis General Revenue Transactions and Use Tax Increase to 7.75% Effective July 1, 2004, the City of Davis will have a new sales tax rate. The voters of Davis approved a 0.50% General Revenue Transactions and Use tax increase. This will increase the tax rate within the city limits from 7.25% to 7.75%. After further clarification from the State Board of Equalization, the core campus area is not considered part of the city limits, as it is an unincorporated area and exempt from this increase. Off-campus locations inside the city limits will be required to pay or charge the new rate of 7.75%. Items purchased that are received on campus where the vendor has not charged tax, but use tax is required, will be accrued and paid at 7.25%, the campus current rate. The California State Board of Equalization news release regarding the July 1 increase can be viewed at: http://www.boe.ca.gov/news/pdf/nr0601043.pdf If you have further questions or concerns regarding this change, please contact Cyndy Johnson, Tax Division Manager, at (530) 757-8936 or the Tax Accounting staff at (530) 757-8505.
