UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR November 4, 2003 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS,AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS Re: UC Davis and the 2003 United Way Campaign United Way has a broad-based flexibility that allows you to present your gift directly to more than 20 programs at our UC Davis Medical Center, including the M.I.N.D. Institute and the UC Davis Children’s Hospital. This year’s United Way Campaign is entitled “Results Matter.” The campaign runs from November 10 November 24, 2003. We are again using United-eWay Online Pledging. The United-eWay system is a secure automated process that is fast, easy, and convenient. It increases the efficiency and effectiveness of the campaign and dramatically reduces campaign costs. Your personalized United Way account information is available in MyUCDavis. Login at http://my.ucdavis.edu using your UCDLoginID and password to find the United Way message in the "Campus Messages" Channel. United Way focuses on three broad areas -- building strong families, helping youth succeed, and maximizing senior life. For example: $5 per pay period provides one week of temporary shelter and food for a battered woman and three children. $10 per pay period provides clothing for an entire family of five after a fire has destroyed their home. $20 per pay period provides a terminally ill patient and their family with complete in-home care for a year. When you invest in United Way Sacramento Area during this year’s “Results Matter” campaign (November 10 November 24) you can address our community’s most critical needs, and about 86.5 cents of every dollar goes directly to community agencies many of whom could not afford to raise funds without United Way’s assistance. This year’s campus campaign chairs, Director of Community Relations MabelSalon and UCDHS Assistant Director of Government and Community Relations Barbara Ross, would be happy to arrange a 10-minute presentation to help inform you and your staff about United Way at an upcoming unit meeting. To schedule a presentation, contact Mabel at (530) 752-9795 or via e-mail at masalon@ucdavis.edu. Requests for paper pledge forms or questions about the campaign operations can be directed to Kristin Burns, Government and Community Relations, (530) 752-9795, or unitedway@ucdavis.edu. Larry N. Vanderhoef Chancellor 03-132
