UC DAVIS: VICE CHANCELLOR - ADMINISTRATION

September 16, 2003

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

RE: Business Officer Institute (BOI) Call for Nominations for December
2-4, 2003 - in Newport Beach, CA

The next session of the Business Officer Institute, sponsored by the UC
Office of the President (UCOP), is scheduled for December 2-4 in Newport
Beach. Once again we seek your assistance in identifying and nominating
individuals for participation. UCOP is especially interested in
individuals who are the lead business officers for their unit. We are also
seeking individuals who have broad responsibility for the administrative
functions of either an academic or administrative department or have
responsibility for key areas of budget, finance, internal controls, human
resources, information technology and/or sponsored projects; we are looking
for a balanced representation from UC Davis. Staff in both academic and
administrative units will benefit from participation in the institute.

The Business Officer Institute was established in recognition of the
critical role business officers hold in a rapidly changing business
environment. The UC business environment is characterized by localized
decision-making authority, increased regulatory interest and oversight,
emphasis on risk-taking and innovation, and increased complexity. UC Davis
has been particularly responsive to this opportunity by supporting the
participation of 386 individuals in the BOI to date. The campus and medical
center have a limited number of participant slots per BOI session. The
Office of the President covers the cost of the institute, including private
room and most meals. Departments are expected to cover the cost of travel,
incidentals and two evening meals. Additional information on program
content, UC Davis business management learning opportunities, a link to the
Office of the President BOI web site, and other logistical details can be
found at http://sdps.ucdavis.edu/boi.htm.

To nominate an individual for participation in the BOI, or if you have
questions, please email the following information to the Davis campus BOI
coordinator, Chuck Yannacone, Staff Development & Professional Services
(cgyannacone@ucdavis.edu):

* Participant: name, title, title code, department, email address,
telephone number, fax.

* Supervisor: name, telephone number and email address; whether nominee is
from an academic or administrative unit.

* Nominator: name, title, email address and telephone number.

Your support of the Business Officer Institute strengthens the UC Davis
commitment to sustaining excellence in our business managers. We look
forward to receiving nominations for the December session by Friday,
October 17, 2003.

Thank you,

Stan Nosek
Vice Chancellor-Administration
