UC DAVIS: VICE CHANCELLOR -- ADMINISTRATION

June 25, 2003

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

RE: Building Lock Down

As you are probably aware, we expect that there will be protesting on
campus today, June 25, related to the Ministerial Conference in Sacramento.
We have had several inquiries as to whether departments, which believe they
may be the targets of protesters action, may lock down their buildings. The
decision to lock down a building should be made by the management in the
departments in the building. We advise that should you wish to lock your
building down, please coordinate with the occupants of your building to
ensure that there is a way for employees and visitors with verifiable
business to enter and exit the building.

Please limit securing the building to existing locking mechanisms already
equipped on the door or window. Please do not use bicycle locks, chains,
etc. that would prohibit use of the normal door's exiting features.

Should protestors arrive at your building, please call the Police
Department immediately at 752-1230.

Sincerely,

Calvin E. Handy
Chief of Police

03-077
