UC DAVIS: Office of the Chancellor October 16, 2001 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Cal Aggie-Davis Fall Blood Drive Thanks to the thousands of Americans who donated blood, there was not a blood supply crisis when the tragedies in New York City and Washington, D.C., occurred. However, these recent tragedies have proven that now, more than ever, the country's blood supply is critical. Please consider donating blood during the upcoming blood drive on Monday and Tuesday, October 22 and 23, 2001, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Freeborn Hall. All blood types are needed. Departmental release time is appropriate for staff wishing to donate. To help alleviate waiting times, there will be a faculty and staff section on the stage in Freeborn Hall. Please check-in at the main lobby in Freeborn Hall and you will be directed to the stage area. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more (a smaller unit may be collected if you weigh less), and be in generally good health. We ask that you do not donate blood if you have had cold or flu symptoms within the 48 hours prior to donating. Please eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood and bring picture identification for registration purposes. All staff, faculty, students, and alumni are members of the Cal Aggie-Davis Community blood program, which provides members and their families with 100 percent coverage for blood and blood costs. Thank you for your continued support in promoting and participating in this event and for your ongoing concern about healthcare in our community. For further information, please call Jamie Lynch at (530) 759-8553. Larry N. Vanderhoef Chancellor 01-149
