UC DAVIS: Office of the Provost October 5, 2001 MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE RE: Special Call for Proposals Within Regular Courses Related to Events of September 11 I am writing to request proposals to develop and deliver instruction within regularly scheduled courses that will address issues related to the world events of September 11. The occurrences of that day have implications that relate to a wide range of topics addressed in courses currently being taught. Culture, language, policy, economics, biotechnology, psychology, engineering, communication, religion and history are among the subjects that may help shed light on the wide range of impacts and implications resulting from the September 11 events and aftermath. Funds are available to bring in guest speakers, to purchase copies of relevant periodicals (e.g., the New Yorker or New York Times), and to acquire films, videos, or similar materials. Other appropriate uses of funds will also be considered. Proposals will be reviewed and awards announced in a minimum time in order to allow inclusion in Fall quarter courses. Proposals for winter and spring quarters are also encouraged. A complete proposal should indicate the course and the quarter taught, the number of students normally enrolled, a very brief description of what is proposed, and the total amount of money requested. Proposals can be submitted by e-mail to trc@ucdavis.edu. For more information, contact Aram Yengoyan, Interim Director of the Teaching Resources Center, at (530) 752-6050. Patricia A. Turner Vice Provost -- Undergraduate Studies #01-141
