UC DAVIS: MAIL DIVISION September 19, 2001 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS Re: UPDATE REGARDING DELAY OF MAIL DUE TO WORLD TRADE CENTER AND PENTAGON TRAGEDY US Postal Service (USPS) -- Domestic Mail: The USPS has informed us that all cargo air carrier operations affecting the mail have returned to normal. All categories of U.S. Mail, including First-Class Mail, Express Mail and Priority Mail are being transported. The Federal Aviation Administration has also authorized commercial airlines to carry letter-size First-Class Mail. The Postal Service has made special arrangements for cargo mail delivery to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Within the Manhattan, New York area, several Post Offices remain closed. Mail delivery and collection to ZIP Codes 10048 and 10280 through 10285 (World Trade Center) will be processed at various Post Offices that are open throughout the area. Mail to the Washington, D.C., area is under normal operations. US Postal Service (USPS) -- International Mail: The USPS is now handling inbound mail and is staging outbound mail to international service centers pending departures of outbound international flights. One can expect a delay of at least 3-7 days for delivery of International Mail. United Parcel Service (UPS) Mail: On Monday, September 17, UPS also resumed service. There will still be a delay on International Mail and no guarantee on deliveries to affected areas. Federal Express (FedEx): On Monday, September 17, FedEx, with the exception of some ZIP Codes in lower Manhattan, resumed air service to all locations within their global network.
