UC DAVIS: OFFICE OF THE PROVOST September 12, 2001 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDHS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Academic Appointees Salary Program The 2001-2002 California state budget includes funding for the regular annual general range adjustment for UC academic appointees. The University has sufficient funding for an across-the-board 0.5% range adjustment for UC academic appointees for 2001-2002. Increases are to be effective October 1, 2001. Later this month, we will formally issue the new salary scales and post the scales on the web. The 2001-2002 academic merit program, for those eligible, was fully funded effective July 1, 2001. As you may also know, state revenues have been declining due to the recent economic downturn. One consequence of this drop in state revenues has been a shortfall in funds provided to the University for staff and academic salary increases. This shortfall for salaries was particularly disappointing given the momentum we had recently begun to build in this area. We will continue to impress upon the Legislature and the governor the importance of full partnership funding for staff and academic employee salaries, and that it is critical to UC's ability to continue to attract and recognize the kind of talent necessary to maintain UC as a leading educational institution and a leading employer. Salary actions for exclusively represented UC employees are subject to the terms of existing collective bargaining agreements or to meeting and conferring in accordance with provisions of the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA), as appropriate. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Kay House at 752-2090. Barbara Horwitz Vice Provost - Academic Personnel 01-123
