UC DAVIS: VICE CHANCELLOR ADMINISTRATION PLEASE POST September 11, 2001 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDHS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Staff Salary Program - University of California and the State Budget Allocates 2 percent for October 1, 2001 Salary Increases The current budget provides 2 percent funds for staff salary increases to be effective October 1, 2001. Based upon the budget, we will distribute, effective October 1, 2001, a 2 percent salary increase to our staff whose documented performance is satisfactory or better. Senior campus management salary increases will also be granted following the same guidelines that apply to staff. Salary increases for employees covered by union contracts will be subject to contract negotiations. We very much appreciate the support from the Governor and President Atkinson for making available the staff salary funds, albeit only 2 percent. It is important to realize that UC officials recognize the importance of obtaining a higher level of salary funds in the next budget cycle if we are to remain competitive in attracting, retaining and rewarding the hard work of our staff. The campus will continue in future years its commitment to the principle of merit and the importance of performance evaluations. It is our plan in future budgets to return to full implementation of our performance management program. The work and contributions of our staff are essential to UC Davis achieving its mission. While we ask for your understanding regarding this year's staff salary program, we certainly share in your disappointment. Staff are encouraged to call or forward any questions regarding the salary program to the campus (752-1872) or UCDHS (734-8098) Human Resources office. Thank you. Dennis Shimek Associate Vice Chancellor - Human Resources 01-121
