RE: Staff Development & Professional Services 2000-2001 Program

The 2000-2001 Staff Development & Professional Services (SD&PS) program has
increased its annual offerings to over 200 courses (comprised of 500
sessions) that promise to be engaging, innovative and
applications-oriented. The 2000-2001 Staff Development & Professional
Services Program Guide showcases the details of these courses and presents
a rich variety of learning opportunities for you and your colleagues as
members of our campus community. Highlights include several certificate
programs such as Event Planning, Risk Awareness, Customer Service,
Cross-Cultural Competence, Understanding Diversity, Environmental Health &
Safety, Promoting Excellence Through Supervision, as well as several new
offerings in technology training and career management. I encourage you to
look closely at these education and development opportunities and make it
possible for your colleagues to participate in them.

This year one 2000-2001 SD&PS program guide is being sent to each
department in its paper format; however, anyone can download his/her own
56-page copy in PDF format simply by going to the SD&PS web site
http://sdps.ucdavis.edu or by going directly into
http://sdps.ucdavis.edu/download.htm. (If you or your colleagues do not
have access to a computer, please call the SD&PS office at 752-1766 so they
may provide you with a hardcopy.)

It is essential that UC Davis staff take the time to invest in their
professional development because continuous learning helps position UC
Davis for the challenges of our collective future. I ask for your support
in encouraging your colleagues to enroll in SD&PS courses. Release time,
alternative work schedules and arranging for coverage are some of the ways
that you can promote staff education goals. Thank you.
