UC DAVIS: ACADEMIC FEDERATION
October 20, 2000
TO: Deans, Directors and Department Chairs
SUBJECT: Academic Federation Travel Grant Applications for Travel to
Professional Meetings for the Fiscal Year 2000-2001.
DEADLINE
Applications for travel from January 1 to June 30, 2001 are due 5 p.m.
Friday, November 17, 2000
The Academic Federation Committee on Research is now accepting applications
from members of the Academic Federation for partial costs for
transportation to professional meetings to be undertaken between January 1
and June 30, 2001.
Please note you may submit a request for funds even if your paper or poster
has not yet been accepted. Confirmation of paper or poster presentation may
be sent in later.
These grants allow Academic Federation members to present their most
up-to-date research results in a highly visible forum. Awards will consist
of $600 for domestic meetings and $1000 for international travel, although
in no case can the award exceed the cost of travel and other allowable
expenses incurred in connection with the meeting. Please consider these
criteria when submitting an application.
1.Funding will be awarded ONLY for travel to meetings for personal
presentation of original research work of one's own scholarship.
2.Funding for international travel will be considered only on an
every-other-year basis. Accordingly, anyone funded for international
travel in 1999-2000 is not eligible for an international travel award in
2000-2001.
3.Applications will be considered for a maximum of one travel award
per fiscal year. Applications must be submitted by the deadlines listed;
requests for funds submitted after a meeting will not be accepted. Due to
requests for funds exceeding the amount available, the committee will use
the following criteria to rank proposals:
4.Higher priority will be given for travel awards to present work
at conferences that have a national or international, rather than a
regional, audience. Applications to attend conferences with restricted
participation and/or lack of a published proceedings will receive lower
priority.
5.Highest priority will be given to applications by junior members
of the Academic Federation.
ELIGIBILITY: Academic Federation members with Principal Investigator
Status. Academic Federation members without Principal Investigator status
or who are on leave without pay are NOT eligible unless approved as an
exception by the Vice Chancellor for Research. A form requesting exception
must be attached to the application. Please refer to the Sponsored Research
Manual, Section 105, for information regarding Principal Investigator
Status. See also the Academic Federation By-Laws for membership eligibility
at http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/acadfed/membership.html
