UC DAVIS: Vice Chancellor - Administration June 9, 2000 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Benefits Office Service Hours Effective Friday, June 9, the campus Benefits Office will increase service hours from the current 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. schedule to an expanded 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. schedule. In an effort to respond to employee concerns and to provide optimum customer service with limited staffing, the Benefits Office has sought the additional services of an internal Human Resources staff member, who will increase her part-time schedule to assist in Customer Service. We have also initiated a Benefits Internship program for campus Departmental Benefits Assistants (DBA), and will have a DBA from the Facilities Services Division participating to allow us to increase our service hours. As a result, four Benefits Customer Service Representatives will be available during these new hours to respond to walk-in customers and answer the Benefits Unit main phone line at (530) 752-1774. This schedule represents an interim measure for the next several weeks while recruitment is underway for a permanent Customer Service Representative position for the Benefits Unit. Once the recruitment and training process is completed, the service hours will expand again to a full 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (open during lunch) schedule. One-on-one counseling appointments with the Unit's two Benefits Analysts will continue to be available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Unit also has a recruitment process underway for a third Analyst position. Once the new Analyst is hired and trained, it is anticipated that the waiting time for counseling appointments will improve from the current 3 - 4 week wait to a wait of less than ten days.
