UC DAVIS: Vice Chancellor - Administration December 7, 1999 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND CAMPUS/UCDHS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Performance Bonus Program This is to announce the 1999-2000 guidelines for implementation of the UC Davis Performance Bonus Program. It replaces the Recognition Award Program, which was implemented in 1994-95 for all staff employees. The new features and program name are designed to address the concerns expressed by employees, supervisors and managers, unions, and advisory groups during our four years' experience with the program. The program has shifted from a nomination-driven, award-based implementation to a model that recognizes performance and accomplishments in conjunction with the annual performance appraisal. The funds will be awarded as part of the compensation program, as a lump sum payment that is in addition to the annual merit increase. Elimination of the nomination process ensures that every staff employee will be considered for the bonus, including those who are at the top of their salary range and those whose work may not be as highly visible as the work of others. Deans and vice chancellors will incorporate information on the program into their calls for performance evaluations and merit reviews for 1999-2000. The Division of Human Resources & Risk Management appreciates the efforts of the many people and organizations, and the campus coalition of unions, who contributed their thoughts, analysis, and suggestions to a constructive process of change. Dennis Shimek Associate Vice Chancellor -- Human Resources & Risk Management 99-140
