UC DAVIS: ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL SERVICES December 1, 1999 TO: DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDMC ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS Subject: University Mileage Reimbursement Rate Increase The IRS has announced that it is increasing the standard mileage rate from 31 cents per mile to 32.5 cents per mile. The increase in the mileage rate is based on annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile conducted on behalf of the IRS by an independent contractor. The change is effective for transportation expenses paid or incurred by employees on or after January 1, 2000. It has been the University's practice to follow the IRS standard mileage rate so that mileage reimbursements to employees who travel on University business will not result in additional taxable income for those employees.
