UC DAVIS: VICE CHANCELLOR-ADMINISTRATION

April 1, 1999

DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, AND CAMPUS/UCDHS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS:

RE: "Take Our Daughters to Work" Day on April 22, 1999

Thursday, April 22, is National "Take Our Daughters to Work" Day when
employers nationwide host nine to fifteen-year-old girls at their workplaces.
At UC Davis, employees are encouraged to bring their daughters (or "daughters
for a day") to campus on April 22. Colleges, divisions, and departments are
asked to respond positively to requests from campus staff and faculty for tours,
demonstrations, job shadowing and the like for girls visiting the campus that
day. In addition, departments may wish to proactively organize activities for
the daughters of their employees.

The Women's Resources and Research Center will offer two programs on "Take Our
Daughters to Work" Day, one for parents and one for daughters. From noon to
1:00 p.m. in the MU Mee Room, parents (and interested others) can discuss
"Navigating (and Surviving) Your Daughter's Adolescence," with Carol Kirshnit
and Rose Turner of the Academic and Staff Assistance Program. Since
adolescence is a challenging time for parents and their daughters, participants
can find out how to support and deal more effectively with their teenage
daughters.

At the same time, in 5 Lower Freeborn, girls are invited to participate in
"Girl Power!", an hour of fun with jujitsu games. This interactive
workshop is taught by Cynthia Frueh, school head of Makoto Kai in Woodland.

For more information about "Take Our Daughters to Work" Day, call the Women's
Resources and Research Center at 752-3372.
