Re: International Scholar Fee-For-Service Program Fee Increase
This is written to notify you that the fees associated with the invitation and
employment of international faculty and researchers will need to be increased.
When Services for International Students and Scholars (S.I.S.S.) became a
fee-for-service unit in 1995-96, it was expected that their scholar services
would eventually become self-supporting. The general fund support which had
previously been provided to S.I.S.S. by the Office of the Provost was
reallocated to the various colleges for redistribution to those academic
departments which use S.I.S.S. services, with the intention that those funds
would be used to defray the cost of those services.
To date, the income generated by the interim level of fees has not been
sufficient to cover the actual costs of S.I.S.S.'s operations. Transitional
funding designed to aid the move to fee-for-service has so far covered this
deficit, but it must now be discontinued. In order for S.I.S.S. to assume
fully self-supporting status, the following fee schedule will be put in place
effective December 1, 1998.
J-1 Exchange Visitor: $ 325
H-1B Distinguished Visitor: $1000
TN (Trade NAFTA from Canada) $ 325
TN (Trade NAFTA from Mexico) $ 325
O (Outstanding Ability Temporary Worker) $1200
Faculty Permanent Resident ("Green Card") $2500
These fees, though higher than those you have been accustomed to, are still
well below the cost of professional visa services off campus.
Please feel free to call S.I.S.S. at 752-0864 or contact them by e-mail at
SISS@ucdavis.edu with questions about the new fee structure.
Sincerely yours,
Peter Dale
