RE: |
Policies and Procedures for Submitting Course Approval Requests |
|
|
|
Attached are the policies and procedures of the Davis Division Committee on Courses for peparing requests to establish new courses, make changes in existing courses, or cancel courses. All course approval requests are thoroughly reviewed by the courses committees. This includes requests proposing relatively minor changes in existing courses, which will be evaluated on the basis of current guidelines.
All requests for actions on courses must be reviewed and approved by college, divisiional, or school courses committees before they are forwarded to the Davis Divisioin Committee for final consideration. Since most of these committees meet only once a month, the entire approval process can take three or four months. A large number of requests, even seemingly routine ones, are delayed because they lack the required documentation. The enclosed material is intended to provide departments and programs with guidance on preparing complete, well-documented requests.
The following deadlines must be met for approved courses to be included in a specific quarterly Class Schedule and Room Directory. (Late requests may be included in supplemental publications.)

Requests for approval of new courses and course changes to be listed in the 1999-2000 General Catalog must reach the Davis Division Committee on Courses of Instruction by February 26, 1999.
You are urged to consult with the courses committee in your college about the necessary lead time it will require in order to act on your requests and forward them to the Davis Division Committee for final action. It may be helpful in your planning to know that the heaviest workload (and occasional backlog) occurs during Winter Quarter, just prior to the General Catalog deadline.
If you have any questions about the Committee's procedures or policies, you may contact Jennifer Kantorowski, Administrative Support to the Committee, at 752-2220 or by e-mail at jakantorowski@ucdavis.edu.
