UC DAVIS: VICE CHANCELLOR-ADMINISTRATION This information should be made available to all Employees April 17, 1998 DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRPERSONS AND CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS RE: Staff Assembly Spring Meeting The Spring Staff Assembly Meeting is on May 5th in the Cabernet Room of the Silo from Noon to 2 p.m. The featured speaker is Dr. Christina Maslach. For the past twenty years, she and her co-author Dr. Michael Leiter have been the leaders in the study of burnout. They have written a powerful new book: The Truth About Burnout. The authors show convincingly that the causes - and solutions - of burnout are to be found primarily in the organization, not the individuals. Then they give individuals resources for working within their organization to climb out of burnout and back to vitality. Dr. Maslach is a lively, interesting speaker. She goes beyond simple-minded, individual stress management to the core of how to personally redesign our work environment. For those UCD staff tired of downsizing, restructuring, pressure for increased efficiency through technology, doing more with less.....this speaker is not to be missed. Following the meeting, Dr. Maslach will sign her book and books will be available for sale ($25.00). Light refreshments will be served at 11:45 and supervisors/managers are encouraged to come with their staff. This is personal and work time productively spent! Release time, with prior supervisory approval, is appropriate. Dennis Shimek Associate Vice Chancellor - Human Resources & Risk Management 98-039
