RE:     UC Davis 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects Public Scoping
Meeting

The University of California, Davis will hold a public scoping meeting on
the environmental review for the 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects.

Wednesday December 10, 4-8 p.m.
UC Davis Alumni Visitor Center
Alpha Gamma Rho Hall

The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to
learn more about the proposed 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects,
the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) process, and to provide the campus
with comments on issues you believe should be addressed in the EIR.

The 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects to be evaluated in the EIR
include:

  1.     Plant and Environmental Science Replacement Facility
         -    Office/lab building located between Veihmeyer Hall and the
tennis courts
         -    Approximately 72,000 assignable square feet (asf) and 2-4
stories in height

  2.     Core Greenhouse Facility and Bowley Plant Sciences Teaching Center
         -     New greenhouses and an associated classroom and lab facility
         -     Located north of Hutchison Drive and west of La Rue Road
near HWY 113
         -     Land use designation changes from teaching/research fields
to low density academic

  3.     La Rue Student Housing
         -     Housing for 550-750 students in 192 apartments
         -     Located west of La Rue Road between Recreation Pool Lodge
and Inline Skate Facility
         -     Land use designation changes from open space reserve to housing
         -     Private development partnership includes campus acquisition
of 150 acres of agricultural lands east of the campus along Putah Creek

  4.     Interstate 80 Enterprise Reserve Expansion
         -     Expand existing 12-acre reserve south of I-80 to
approximately 25 acres
         -     Land use designation changes from teaching/research fields
to high density  academic
         -     Evaluation of potential development of up to 240,000 asf of
lab/office and 180,000 asf of greenhouses at the Campus Enterprise Reserves


  5.     Cumulative Impacts
         -     Update LRDP EIR traffic analysis to reflect a 2-lane
Richards Blvd.
         -     Update cumulative impacts related to proposed LRDP changes

The meeting will be an open house where you will have an opportunity  to
talk directly to people involved with the projects.  Since  it is an open
house, you can come to the meeting any time after 4 p.m. and not miss your
opportunity to participate.

An Initial Study identifying the impacts to be addressed in the EIR on
these projects has been published and may be obtained at the Planning and
Budget Office, 3rd Floor, Mrak Hall, UC Davis.  Copies of the Initial Study
may also be reviewed at:  Shields Library Reserve Book Desk on the UC Davis
campus; Yolo County Library, 315 East 14th St., Davis, California; or
Fairfield-Suisun Community Library, 1150 Kentucky Street, Fairfield,
California.

Written comments on the Initial Study may be submitted until 5 p.m. on
January 5, 1998, at the following address:
