UC DAVIS: SERVICES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS
December 5, 1997
DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS
Re: International Scholar Fee-For-Service Program Fee Increase
Services for International Students and Scholars (S.I.S.S.) supports the
international recruitment and retention of international faculty and
researchers for the UC Davis campus, professional schools, and affiliates.
In consultation with and with the approval of the Office of the Provost,
S.I.S.S. recharge rates will increase effective November 1, 1997, to meet
the rising costs of providing professional services to academic departments
and to the international faculty and researchers they host and/or employ.
The new rates follow detailed analysis by the Planning and Budget Office
and reflect appropriate increases in staffing and operating expenses.
Because they do not represent the full cost of providing services to the
user-departments, the Office of the Provost will continue to support
expenses beyond the fees collected.
The revised fee schedule is as follows:
J-1 Exchange Visitor Professor/Researcher (no fee for J-1 extension):$ 180
H-1B Temporary Worker (no fee for H-1B extension): $ 600
Permanent Residency based on permanent UCD employment: $1860
The Office of the Provost has also approved the institution of the
following additional fees effective November 1, 1997:
O-1 Persons of Extraordinary Ability in the Sciences, Arts, and Business:
$1000
TNs (Canadians): $ 200
TNs (Mexicans): $ 600
(Higher fee for Mexican TNs reflects additional INS-required procedures)
The recharge is initiated by S.I.S.S. at the time of the initial document
or petition only; there is no charge for subsequent extensions. As always,
there is no charge for departmental consultations prior to the invitation
of international faculty and researchers. This fee for service does not
include INS application fees, which are to be paid either by the department
or by the scholar.
Departments are encouraged to consult with S.I.S.S. well before an
invitation of an international professor or researcher is made to ensure
that he or she is able to obtain the legal status that will allow him or
her to undertake the planned activity at UCD and to receive payment of
salary, honorarium, or reimbursement of expenses if appropriate.
Please contact us at 752-0864 or email us at siss@ucdavis.edu with
questions about the fees or our services. We look forward to continuing to
work with you to ensure that UC Davis benefits from the contributions of
and collaborations with international faculty and researchers.
