RE:     UC Davis Washington Center Faculty Fellows, 1998-99

     DEADLINE: January 16, 1998

          Proposals are now being accepted for two (2) positions as UC
Davis Washington Center Faculty Fellows for 1998-99. Application may be
made for the full 1998-99 academic year, or for one quarter (Fall 1998 or
Spring 1999).
          Positions as Washington Center Faculty Fellows are designed for
faculty from all disciplines (a) whose research would significantly benefit
from a period of residence in Washington, D.C., and (b) who are interested
in teaching an upper division course (in seminar format) in the Washington
Center's Undergraduate Program.
          In lieu of a stipend, a Washington Center Faculty Fellow may
receive departmental teaching credit and regular salary, subject to
agreement by his/her department chair. The department will be compensated
by the Washington Center at a rate of $5,500 per course. Fellows will
receive a travel stipend and are provided with an office, computer, and
staff support at the Washington Center.
          Applications are open to all UC Davis teaching faculty.
Applicants must submit: (1) a description of the research project,
including a demonstration of the need to be in residence in Washington,
D.C.; (2) a course proposal for the seminar course to be taught as part of
the undergraduate program; (3) a curriculum vitae, with a complete list of
publications and other pertinent accomplishments; and (4) a letter of
endorsement from the department or program chair.

will be reviewed by the Washington Center Advisory Committee. Awards will 
be announced by mid-February 1998.
