Re:  Release Time for Staff to Participate in Fall Opening Convocation 

The 1997 Fall Convocation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, in 
Freeborn Hall, from 11:00 a.m. to noon.   The Convocation is open to all 
members of the campus community: faculty, staff, students, alumni, and 
friends.  

This year's program will feature Janelle Reinelt, Professor and Chair of 
Dramatic Art and Dance, who will speak on "The University, The Arts, and 
Democratic Society."  Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef will conclude with "UC 
Davis: Renovating our Niche." 

Everyone is invited to a reception immediately following the event on the 
Freeborn Patio. 

Please ensure that academic and staff supervisors encourage staff employees 
to attend the event.  Release time with supervisor's approval is 
appropriate for this important University activity. 

Let's celebrate together the excitement and challenges of a new academic 
year ahead.  I urge all members of the UC Davis community to attend.
