RE:     Student Housing Facilities Name and Policy Change 

During the last few years, the department of Student Housing has experienced a change in those 
requesting living accommodations in our family housing units.  More post-doctoral students, 
graduate students, teaching assistants, University affiliates, and unrelated adults are showing 
an interest in living in our facilities.  In 1996-97, over 80 tenants were not student families with children.

Consequently, we have changed the name of our facilities, as well as our policy for eligibility.  Effective 
July 1, 1997, Student Family Housing will be officially designated Orchard and Solano Park Apartments.

The department of Student Housing remains committed to giving students with children priority in 
the leasing of these apartment units.  After that goal is met, we encourage other students to consider 
living in our facilities while they are enrolled at UC Davis.  Student tenants residing in the apartments will 
be allowed to have one unrelated adult living with them.
